One of the best foods to eliminate belly fat is fish. It soars in protein and has little if any fat. And it can be delicious when served properly.
But before I reveal my three, let me share this article I found this morning, as it has some great insight.
NUTRITION: Eat smart with foods high in fullness factor
Those who are trying to lose weight are often concerned that dieting will make them feel hungry.
In fact, hunger is one of the biggest obstacles to losing weight. Dieters find themselves in a vicious cycle of cutting calories or carbs and experiencing extreme hunger, which is then followed by binging and splurging on foods that are off the diet. This leads to what is known as yo-yo dieting, poor morale and weight gain.
Many people ask how they can eat less and lose weight without experiencing that hunger.
Being in the know about the “fullness factor” can help you stick to your meal plan and avoid excess eating, while choosing from a variety of satisfying and healthful foods.
So what is the fullness factor?
For years, researchers have been studying satiety, the reduction in hunger that is accompanied by a pleasant feeling of fullness after eating. Though there are many factors that affect satiety – and they vary from person to person – the type of food consumed may be one of the biggest factors.
Foods that have a higher weight and volume, regardless of how many calories they contain, have a greater fullness factor. Nutrients that positively impact fullness include protein, fiber and water.
People who want to lose weight without going hungry should choose low-calorie nutrient-dense foods. For example, a cup of steel-cut oatmeal will cause more fullness with much fewer calories than a croissant.
are some top fullness factor foods to incorporate into your meal plan:Fish
Per serving, fish has less total fat and saturated fat than chicken, beef and other meats, while providing just as much protein. As an added bonus, fish is an excellent source of heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
Almost all non-starchy vegetables including carrots, lettuce, zucchini, broccoli and cabbage are full of fiber and water, which fill up your stomach with very few calories. Plus, veggies are rich in vitamins, minerals and disease-fighting antioxidants.
Products made from grains such as whole wheat, oats and brown rice are filling because of their high fiber content. Whole grains also are known for lowering risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes.
Low in calories and fat and high in fiber and protein, beans make you feel full longer because they take time to digest. This tasty vegetarian protein food can make a great addition to salads, soups and hot meals.
Studies have shown that eating eggs in the morning increases satiety and leads to more weight loss than a higher-carbohydrate breakfast of equal calories. These results are likely due to the high-quality protein found in eggs. Plus, eggs are affordable and quite easy to prepare.
Eating fresh whole apples before a meal has been shown to decrease the amount of calories consumed. Whole apples increase satiety more than apple juice or applesauce. The fiber and high water content in whole apples is naturally filling and decreases appetite.
Remember that when you are preparing nutritious and satisfying meals with these foods use healthy cooking methods such as baking, grilling, roasting and steaming to avoid adding extra calories and fat.
Breading and frying a piece of fresh fish can throw off good intentions for a low-calorie dinner.
Eating whole foods as close as possible to their natural state is your best bet for following a low-calorie, nutrient-dense meal plan.
